I have looked on line at the Beco carrier and Ergo carrier. Anyone have experience with either of these or other carriers? I have also looked at slings. Not sure what to look for in a baby carrier as I never used one with my first baby. I need it for the park and mall trips. I would like something I can carrier a newborn in. Please help!

The beco looks fine, it seems to support the babies legs in the proper manner rather than allow them to dangle. Possibly the legs end up a little far apart. However it is basically a mei-tei/asian baby carrier which you can sew yourself.

The ergo looks ok, but if you are short like me the waist straps might end up in the wrong place which is very, very uncomfortable.

Basically you want something that is going to be comfortable for you and comfortable for the baby and safe. For me that means support on two shoulders, I don’t know how people use slings -then again I have neck and shoulder problems from an injury. For baby you want head support if for a newborn. And you want the weight to be distributed on the buttocks and if possible thighs (or for a sling of course the weight can be supported by the whole back of the baby), if the weight however is on a narrow area of the crotch/spine and the legs are dangling that is not good for baby’s spine. Usually for an upright carry you want the legs about 90 degrees from the body and 90 degrees from each other.

strain free baby carriers?

I have a baby carrier for my daughter, and I’ve used it a few times, but since I had her my back hurts a lot when I hold her and when I put her in her carrier it bothers my back even more so. Are there any carriers that don’t put so much strain on your back? I love to carry her but I feel bad because when I do my back starts hurting and I have to put her down or give her to her dad.

The only carrier that I like is a Moby wrap. I didn’t buy that brand name I made one myself though. I bought a 5 1/2 yard piece of cotton gauze, and had the fabric lady cut it lengthwise for me. So I have 2 really long wraps, that yardage is perfect for me, 5′7”, 140 lbs, and the gauze is not the super thin stringy gauze it’s just really light sheer type fabric for our Hawaii weather.

If you look up Moby wrap though you can see how they are tied, and it took a little practice at first but only after a couple of times and I was very comfortable. It distributes the baby’s weight across your whole front side and back. I really couldn’t use anything else. As the baby gets older it can also be used as a side carry supporter, and back carrier.

Do you feel as though shopping for baby pushchairs has turned into a nightmare? Do you dread the thought of having to enter another baby supply store just to be faced with a pushy baby supply salesperson? Many new parents feel overwhelmed when trying to shop for the right baby equipment to suit their baby’s needs. With so many differing opinions about the various baby products available, it can be difficult to know how to choose the right ones. Thankfully there are plenty of tips available to help you make your decision about buying your baby’s pushchair with confidence. The tips and hints below are designed to make shopping for your baby items more enjoyable and less frustrating.

Talk to your friends who have kids. Even though your needs might (and probably will) be different from theirs, there is no reason you can’t pump them for information on the products that they have purchased for their children. While you are talking to them, find out why exactly they chose the stroller they did, and what other ones they considered. Ask them why they decided against other models. Ask others about specific strollers that you are thinking about buying to see what people seem to think about them. You can gain a ton of information from other parents!

How much space do you need? Consider that baby pushchairs are a favorite place to stash things when you’re out and about. You should think about getting a stroller that has baskets or shelves to hold important things and small purchases that you might make. You don’t want to be trying to juggle a bunch of bags and push your child’s stroller at the same time. This is especially true if you will be transporting more than one small child. You will need a special multi-child stroller if this is the case!  I always try to find pushchairs that will roll well over swiftlock laminate flooring and vinyl plank flooring too.

Where will you be taking your pushchair? Car owners will want to look at features that others won’t need to consider.

Constantly entering and exiting a train or bus, with dozens and possibly hundreds of passengers, will require a different set of needs than a person who doesn’t ride public transit. Asking yourself simple questions similar to these will save you a great deal of frustration down the road. For people that are going to walk a lot then you need a pushchair that is known for its sturdiness. To be able to fold and unfold a pushchair simply and quickly is a quality that car owners should look for before they make a selection. Riding public transportation with a pushchair can be tricky; your best option is to choose a pushchair that isn’t too bulky and that can be folded fairly quickly.

There are many ways you can decide whether certain baby pushchairs are the right ones for you. Remember, you need to buy something that will suit your needs as they exist now. Just because someone else likes a stroller doesn’t mean it’s right for you. Carefully consider what you need in a stroller and then buy something that takes care of it.

The Baby Carriers that you have to tie around your body…that’s what I mean.
Could you please specify lenght when answering? Thank You!

For the average woman, it should be 4-5 yards (12-15 feet) long. I made three for like $7. Use the instructions here: http://wearyourbaby.com/Default.aspx?tabid=121

I am a very petite gal and got away with 10 feet and was able to do all the wraps I wanted, but shorter than that and you might not be able to tie up :)

I have the BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier and I am wondering how soon the baby can support his/ her head well enough to be in it.

Can you use those carriers from birth, or does the baby need to build up muscles first?

If you can’t use it from birth, what do you use instead?

Thanks.

You can use them from birth.

But if you can take the Bjorn back I would recommend that you exchange it. With a baby in the bjorn carriers their legs dangle straight down that means all their weight is on the baby’s crotch and tailbone. A carrier should hold the legs at about 90 degrees from the body and about 90 degrees from each other and have a wide area to distribute the weight over the buttocks and preferably the buttocks and upper thigh.

Ok, so I am trying to find a portable baby carrier online, but I forgot what they are called. If I search "baby carrier", then the search comes up with, the sling type carriers. I want the type that that the baby lays down in, and you can pick up with the handles. If anyone knows what I’m talking about please let me know!

What you are talking about sounds like a Mosses basket.

I asked this before got abunch of statments and comments BUT my question was… which style (the sitting or feet dropping down) are hard on the pelvis?

I have heard that the ones where their feet are down (Snugli and Bjorn) can be painful to their hips and tailbones when they are quite small. My son didn’t like the snugli until he was about 6 weeks old, then he loved it. I know a lot of mom’s who swear by a mei tai, and they are supposedly easier on little bodies.
