Your baby is due and you have almost everything you need to welcome your new arrival. Everything except one thing; a stroller that is just right for your infant. But which of the hundreds of strollers available do you choose?

There are so many different options when deciding upon a stroller that the most important question to ask is what are you going to use it for? It may seem like a silly question requiring a matter-of-fact, but exasperated “to carry the baby in” but it is a serious question. Do you want a stroller that will accept your baby’s car seat? If so, you might just need a stroller frame that accepts snap-in car seats so your infant can mercifully stay asleep from a long car ride and transition on to the stroller with a minimum of jostling which could wake the little angel up.

Some stroller frames are relatively inexpensive since they don’t have to supply a comfortable seat, snug belts, and cute upholstery. The downside, of course, is that you need to have a good, compatible car seat. This may negate some of the benefit of the stroller frame’s lower expense, but if you already have the car seat (perhaps as part of the gifts you received at the baby shower or when the tiny bundle of joy was born), then you are sitting pretty. If you don’t, or if you need a second car seat (such as for a second car) then a more traditional stroller would be your best bet.

High-end strollers with detachable car seats offer the same benefit of the car seat/stroller frame combination mentioned above, but there is the added benefit of having matching frame and upholstery. Also, there is absolutely no question that the car seat will fit your frame; a potential problem with a frame designed to accept “any” car seat. If, on the other hand, you want a simple and cheaper stroller to cart your child around in, then checking out standard, old-fashioned baby strollers is the best bet.

The fewer additions you add to a stroller, the lower the price tends to be. The downside may be that the stroller requires you lift your sleeping child from the stroller or car seat in order to transfer the child, but if they aren’t asleep, what is the difference. Inexpensive, gently used infant strollers can be found at pre-owned stores such as thrift shops or Once Upon a Child, the latter of which has very stringent standards for the items they purchase while the former usually rehabilitates and cleans the stroller fairly well.

Of course, strollers, and particularly buggies or baby “prams” to borrow the British word, have become a fashion statement. These retro chic strollers are reinterpretations of classic Baby Strollers from 100 years or more ago; black cloth with chrome handles and white painted wheels. Designers have put their names on essentially the same kind of stroller while altering it enough to make it discernable to the practiced eye; you might just want to look into grandma’s attic to find some buried stroller treasure.

David Cummings

Long car trips with young children can sometime be a challenge , but with some thoughtful planning Toddler Travel can be much more enjoyable and satisfying for parents and children alike. As we all know small children can get cranky and bored while riding in a car ( a lot like some adult that I know).

However, if you bring along the items necessary to entertain and comfort them many of the confrontations and ugly situations can be avoided.

Toddler Travel Survival List

1.)	We all love music and so do your children. Bring along their Cd\’s. Their favorite music could potentially entertain them for hours. Turn into a family sing-along and the time will pass by much more quickly

2.)	Snacks! Snacks! Snacks! Bring along plenty of snacks from home this will save you both money and time. Healthy snacks such as raisins and Cheerios are easily brought along. And don\’t forget the sippy cup!

3.)	Favorite toys are always a good idea. IMPORTANT! Make sure they aren\’t small toys that can\’t easily be retrieved when dropped. This will definitely happen and if the toy can\’t be located the decibel level in the car will surely rise in a hurry. LARGE TOYS THAT BE EASILY GRABBED.

4.) You are getting very sleep. Car rides make me sleepy that\’s why my wife drives a lot. Toddlers will get sleepy also and therefore cranky. Bring along comfortable pillows and anything else that will get good rest when it is needed.

5.)	Let them express their creative side. Bring along art supplies that they can draw pictures with. If you are worried about their clothing or your car seats then bring along a Etch-A-Sketch or magnetic drawing boards. There are also markers than only draw on special paper.

6.)Give your child a new toy or gift when getting ready to depart. The novelty will surely keep your toddler busy during the initial part of the trip.

In addition to bringing the necessary supplies it is important to plan your trip to allow for an adequate number of rest stops. Obviously, with small children this means more stops. They need a chance to get out of the car and stretch and get some fresh air. And of course, potty trained children will dictate when are where the stops will be. Be realistic in planning how long your trip is going to take.

Toddler Travel can be fun for both you and your children. Take the time to plan your trip carefully.

Baby Car Seats UK Safety For Your Children

Do you pay a lot of attention to the safety of your children in the car? Or maybe just not enough attention? In the past there have been children seriously injured or even killed due to the seats not being properly fitted. There are also many children that have been seen sitting in the rear of a car without any kind of restraint at all.

Since September 2006, a child who is 12 years of age or less than 135cm tall has to travel in a child booster car seat whilst travelling in a car. It is illegal for someone of this age and height to travel in a car without a child booster car seat. Police have been carrying out spot checks especially outside schools to make sure children are securely fitted in the correct restraint depending on their age, weight or height. If you do not have your children in the correct restraint you could be charged a fine.

All it takes to protect your child is to buy a car seat for your child which has the correct level of safety and meets the current safety standards. We do not recommend second hand car seats as you dont know the complete history of the seat. A second hand car seat may also have expired or maybe doesnt meet the current safety standards. It is also advised not to hire baby car seats as again you dont know the full history of the seat. Your childs safety is worth more than this.

When you have bought your new car seat make sure the seat is appropriate for your childs age, weight and height. You then need to fit your child car seats on to your car following the instruction manual that comes with it. Make sure you spend plenty of time fitting the seat, especially if you are fitting it for the first time. Any time you have spent making sure your childs seat is secure is definitely worth it. You are better to be safe than sorry. Even if you think you have bought one of the safest and best child car seats you still need to carefully read over the instructions and be cautious when fitting the seat. Make sure when strapping your child in the seat that the straps are secure enough. You should be able to fit one finger under each strap. If there is still space when you do this, the straps are too loose. If the car seat doesnt feel secure enough or moves more than an inch in any direction you should refer back to the instructions to see if you have missed anything. If you are still unsure whether the seat is secure enough, take it to a local garage where you should be able to get some help.

When driving with children, especially while going on long trips, it is important to take into account the safety of your passengers. Making sure that your car has seatbelts and airbags is not enough. Depending on your country and location, there are special local laws and legislation in place to ensure that child passengers traveling in cars enjoy the utmost safety on the road.

With this in mind, here are some general car seat safety tips for children:

Children under 12 years of age do not belong in the front seat, which is the most dangerous place in a car. Put children in the back seat, especially if your car has passenger side air bags.

In the case of infants they should be placed in a rear-facing infant seat until they are one year old and at least 20 pounds in weight. Children who reach 20 pounds before their first birthday still need to use a rear-facing seat.

After children reach 20 pounds and have passed their first birthday, they can now use a forward facing car seat until they are about 40 pounds.

A belt positioning booster seat should be used for children over 40 pounds.

A car’s regular seat belt should not be used on a child until they fit correctly. The minimum weight and height for a child to be able to use a seatbelt is about 80 pounds and 4 feet and 9 inches tall.

A child is not ready to use regular seat belts until the shoulder strap fits across his/her shoulder and not his neck. Also, the lap belt should fit across the child’s hips and not his/her stomach.

Be sure to read the car seat manufacturer’s instructions and your car owner’s manual to ensure the correct installation and usage of the car seat.

There has been great progress achieved in recent years in preventing child occupant deaths and injuries, especially in increasing the correct use of child safety seats, booster seats and safety belts. However, more work needs to be done to protect child occupants who remain at heightened risk.

There is no denying the costs involved, because child seats and other safety accessories for children do not come cheap. But it’s an expense a growing number of people are willing to bear. Every part of a car is replaceable unlike the people inside so keeping the kids safe and secure is invariably a price well worth paying.
